VIJAYAWADA: After the talks held with Digital Service Providers (DSPs) failed to yield desired results, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce Digital Committee has decided to stop the screening of films in around 2,000 theatres across Andhra Pradesh from March 2.
The strike call was given by the Joint Action Committee of the Southern Indian Film Industry in protest against the alleged exorbitant Virtual Print Fee (VPF) levied by service providers UFO and QUBE.
Earlier, film producer and Joint Action Committee chairman D Suresh Babu, along with convener P Kiran, held talks with DSP representatives to resolve the issues and avert the strike, but in vain. The JAC is demanding total exemption of VPF, sharing of advertisement revenue and fixing of eight-minute time limit for a screening of commercial advertisements in theatres.
“Screening of films will be stopped from Friday. I appeal to cinegoers to extend their support to the industry,” said Mutyala Ramadas, secretary of Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce.
