VISAKHAPATNAM: Janepalli Srinivasa Rao, prime accused in the attack on Leader of the Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has reportedly told the officials of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case that his plan was to eliminate the YSRC chief. Denying conspiracy behind the attack, he also told the police it was his own plan and that no others were involved in the incident.

The YSRCP chief was allegedly attacked at Visakhapatnam Airport by airport restaurant assistant chef Srinivasa Rao on October 25. On Thursday evening, police deputed a doctor from King George Hospital to examine the health condition of the accused. “As per the request of police, Dr Vijay Babu went to the Airport Police Station and examined Rao. Later, the doctor submitted a report stating that Rao’s health parameters such as blood pressure and sugar are normal. The doctor also certified that Rao’s mental condition is normal,” KGH Superintendent Dr G Arjuna told TNIE.

Meanwhile, the SIT officials continued their interrogation of Rao in the presence his parents J Tatarao and Savitramma. The SIT is also interrogating the two women, who were detained from Guntur district after verifying the call records of the accused, at the Airport Police Station here.

SIT special teams sent to Thanelanka in Mummidivaram mandal of East Godavari district (the native place of the accused), Piduguralla of Guntur district, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha returned to the city after completing their probe.  As the police custody of  the accused is ending on November 2, the SIT officials are in a little bit hurry to complete their investigation and prepare the final report.

“After analysing the mobile call records of Rao, we found that he made around 320 phone calls a few days before the attack on October 25. Through various filtering methods, we have shortlisted around 100 frequently called persons. We are checking their details one by one. We came to know that among the 100 numbers, names of some important persons are there. We will question all of them. If necessary, we will file a petition in the court requesting extension of Rao’s custody for another week,” a SIT official said.

Meanwhile, newly appointed Zone- 2 (Gajuwaka) DSP Nayim Asmi joined SIT in-charge BVS Nageswara Rao and other officials for interrogation, replacing DCP K Phakeerappa.
