Telangana elections: Why Amit Shah is visiting only these places...

The most disappointing results back then were in Malkajgiri, where N Ramchander Rao lost a hard-fought electoral battle by mere 2,680 votes.

HYDERABAD: On Sunday, BJP president Amit Shah completed four of his six scheduled meetings in Telangana. An analysis of the saffron party’s performance in constituencies visited by Shah on Sunday indicates he is trying to boost numbers in places where BJP lost with close margins in 2014 elections. He kicked off his electioneering in early September from Mahbubnagar, where his party candidate lost by just 2,535 votes to the TRS. After that, Amit Shah moved to Karimnagar, where again, the lotus finished quite close to the car in the poll race.

The most disappointing results back then were in Malkajgiri, where N Ramchander Rao lost a hard-fought electoral battle by mere 2,680 votes.

Shah is set to hold a roadshow in that area on December 2, just before the polls. The situation is same in Kalwaakurthy, Karimnagar, Adilabad, and Narayankhed all places that BJP is focussing better this time. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will add to the saffron party’s lost ground in Mudhole where it stood second.

At constituencies where the party has already won - five seats in GHMC limits in 2014 - the BJP is wanting to secure its deposits without losing it to a tough competition.

At Khairatabad, Goshamahal, and Uppal where the BJP faces a strong opposition, the party is trying to secure the seats and its deposits. For this reason, Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be holding road shows in these places.

With these estimations, the BJP is looking to secure at least twelve seats and would consider playing a key role in the formation of a government in the case of a hung assembly.

To this forecast, even BJP national general secretary, a senior leader in the Telugu States,  P Muralidhar Rao hinted at a recent press conference that “without us, there will not be politics in Telangana.” The groundwork is also being laid for Lok Sabha elections, which will perhaps be held in the middle of 2019.
