HYDERABAD: M Chandramukhi, the first and only transwoman to be contesting this election, has allegedly gone missing. The Bahujan Left Front candidate, supporters claim, was abducted. The news has sent shock waves across the transgender community that has won a hard-fought battle to find representation in politics.

Chandramukhi was set to meet her supporters who had arrived from Warangal to her Jawaharnagar residence on Tuesday morning. But they found that her house was locked and phone switched off since around 7.30 am. There was no information about her whereabouts till this report went to print.

“She put up a Facebook post at 7 am and responded to us. Later, a group of supporters who had come from Warangal informed us that her door was locked and she wasn’t responding to any calls,” says trans rights activist Bittu Karthik. Activists have not ruled out the possibility that she could have been kidnapped by ‘political heavyweights’ of Goshamahal constituency.

Chandramukhi is set to face BJP’s Raja Singh and TRS’ Prem Singh Rathore in the elections. “We know what possibilities are there considering who she is opposing at Goshamahal but we don’t want to jump to any conclusions,” noted Karthik.

Meanwhile, Banjara Hills inspector R Govinda Reddy said that “a missing complaint has been registered and investigations are on based on the leads obtained from the CCTV footage.”
