Aneesha Ummer’s realistic portrayal of a college girl falling for her classmate, who has joined priesthood, in the short movie has gone viral.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the girl whose heart’s North-Eastern corner is a no-entry zone, no such signboards blocked her path when it came to winning over the Malayalee audience. Aneesha Ummer’s realistic portrayal of a college girl falling for her classmate who has joined priesthood in the short film Ente Hridayathinte Vadakku Kizhakke Attathu is now the talk of the town.

Aneesha never thought her emotional dialogue ‘Sweetheart, why did you opt for the priesthood?’ from the film will take the social media by the storm. “I have been doing short films for a few years now. But getting so much recognition came as a surprise,” she said. Aneesha finds the memes that flooded the Facebook and the WhatsApp huge motivation. However, it also increases pressure because audience begins to expect more, she added.

Ummer said director Anup Narayan deserves the credit for the success of the short film. The film garnered more than 2 million views on Youtube. She said the director’s zeal for perfection helped in making her character a success. Narayan also wrote and edited the film. The music was by Joel Johns.

Background score played a key role in the success of the short film, she added. The scene, which captured maximum attention and got multiple shares was one where Aneesha delivers her hit dialogue to Bibin Mathai who played the priest. She said, “People could relate to the emotions portrayed in the scene because of the soulful music playing in the backdrop.” Though she delivered the dialogue with elan, Aneesha said her real and reel lives are very different. “I knew the other actors since we all had studied together in an acting school. We practised a lot to make the scenes look realistic,” she said.

Aneesha, who is enjoying her newfound success, said her dream is to work in movies. To achieve this dream she resigned her job as an air hostess in Bengaluru and came down to Kochi. “I did receive a few movie calls but nothing has been finalised as of now. However, two other short films will be released soon,” she said.  The short film with its unique portrayal of love and life puts forth the concept ‘may everything beautiful, remain so’. The other actors are Roshan Anand, Vishnu Vidyhyadaharan, Manoj M B and Sangeeth Soman while Prasad Yogi is the cinematographer.
