I am waiting for an Opportunity to prove my skill: Gokul Suresh
Gokul Suresh says his only fear, when it comes to his career, is ending up under-utilised. "I am not that desperate to be a hero material, nor am I intent on ensuring an extra-long run in cinema. But, I fear not being able to utilise my full potential, " says Gokul, as he awaits the release of his third movie, Ira.
Son of actor Suresh Gopi, Gokul made his debut in 2016 with Mudhugauv, a romantic outing which did well in theatres. But, instead of an expected signing spree, Gokul just went missing for a year before reappearing in Masterpiece with Mammootty last December. As unusual as the choice might seem, Gokul says his only reason to chose Masterpiece was the presence of Mammootty himself. "Mammootty sir was the reason why I chose Masterpiece. I didn't care whether the character was a long one or a sidekick," he says.
The appearance earned him good responses anyway, says Gokul. "I am not an active person in social media. I don't even have a verified FB page. But, the responses I got so far have been satisfactory that I haven't thought about any other career options, than cinema," he adds. Now, with Ira, Gokul looks to do some great work. "Ira is a crime thriller. There is a romantic thread as well. But, I don't want to go more into the character, as there is an element of suspense," says Gokul. Does he ever consult his father about his career choices? "Not really. He wouldn't interfere with my work. He says my decisions are mine and so are the consequences. And, I don't want to carry my lineage as a baggage too. As for lessons, his life and struggle, both in cinema and politics, have always been an inspiration. His success was self-made and I want to be the same," he says.
Naturally, Gokul isn't all comfortable with the comparisons doing the round. "I am a star son but it is unfair to compare me with anyone else. The other day Kannan (Kalidas Jayaram) had shared a meme putting me in the same league as Pranav Mohanlal and Dulquer Salman. I know I am nowhere near them, but I only wish I get an opportunity to showcase my skills like the ones they got," says Gokul.
Gokul's name has been associated with many projects that were announced but hasn't taken off, but the actor says he is in no hurry."I have read over 200 scripts so far, but very little excited me. It is the right opportunities that create an actor. I am waiting for that," says Gokul.
