Although it was rumoured that Nithya Menen or Vidya Balan would be playing the yesteryear popular actor Savitri in biopic Mahanati, the latest buzz is that, Keerthy Suresh has ‘almost been finalised’ for the project. Previously,  a few reports suggested that talks were on with Samantha, who was also being considered for the lead role. But now we learn that she plays a pivotal role, and the story of Savitri will be narrated through her perspective.

The project, directed by Nag Ashwin, will go on the floors from February. However, he hasn’t finalised the rest of the cast yet. “Keerthy is officially yet to sign the project. Currently, she’s busy with Suriya’s Thaana Serndha Kootam. For this biopic, she needs to gain weight,” said sources.
It’s also being said that the film will have characters like Gemini Ganesan, NT Rama Rao and Nageswara Rao among others.
