HYDERABAD: After the classic film ‘Maya Bazaar’ got a colour makeover, it’s now the turn of Tollywood classic ‘Patala Bhairavi’. And not only is this classic flick being remade in glorious technicolour, but it’s going one up when compared to ‘Maya Bazaar’ — ‘Patala Bhairavi’ is to be released in 3D, thanks to a group of Tollywood producers.

‘Patala Bhairavi’ was produced by Vijaya Pictures in 1951 and starred NT Rama Rao, S V Ranga Rao, Malathi K, Girija, Relangi, among others. It was directed by Kadri Venkata Reddy and Kamalakara Kameshwara Rao, and Pingali Nagendra Rao wrote both script and song lyrics. Based on a story from Kasi Majilee Kathalu, written by Madhira Subbanna Deekshitulu, this movie achieved both critical acclaim and box office success.

If sources are to be believed, then this all-time favourite is soon going to remade and released in 3D. It shouldn’t come as any surprise, really — ‘Patala Bhairavi’ has huge scope for excellent graphic work.

The original itself was very visually exciting. Sources say that the film will be made by a team of four big producers. While the names of Daggubati Suresh and Allu Aravind have come into discussion, there will be two more who would be joining the two soon. The reason for this collaboration is that this is going to be one expensive project! Word on the Tolly street is that the film will be a trilingual and that the producers are looking at a budget of Rs 80 crores.

So who will be playing this extremely lucrative lead role?

Rumour has it that Rana Daggubati is to play the lead, but nothing is final as of now. NTR Jr is also being considered for the role that his father portrayed so artfully.
