Met Gala 2019 in photos: Gender-bending looks rule at the cray, crazy and campy party of the year

The annual Met Gala is synonymous with the over-the-top outfits of the who's who of Hollywood and fashion and sports, and oh, the $30,000 ticket per head. And it didn't disappoint us this year. The black-tie extravaganza Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit is an annual fundraiser for the fashion department. 2019's theme 'Camp: Notes on Fashion' is a play on US writer and political activist Susan Sontag's 1964 essay, Notes on Camp. The outfits had to be based on "irony, humour, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality and exaggeration". Check out our favourite celebrity looks from the party of the year:

Lady Gaga quite literally stole the show in her 4 dramatic costume appearances at the gala. First spotted in a fuchsia gown with a super long train, the singer was accompanied by men who sported tuxedos for the mega event and carried black umbrellas. They were followed by a person pulling a pink wagon that read, 'Haus of Gaga.' Inside the carriage were clear luggage cases from Maxwell's Spring 2019 collection, accessories including a hairbrush and sunglasses, cowboy hats and a black phone from the '90s. Gaga then revealed an asymmetrical black strapless gown underneath and then slowly removed her black gown to reveal a body-hugging pink dress and menagerie of Tiffany & Co diamonds. In the final act, Queen Gaga slipped out of the pink dress to reveal her black bra, fishnets, and pair underwear. (Photos | AP)
