LUCKNOW/GORAKHPUR: As many as 70 children have died in UP CM's Lok Sabha constituency, Gorakhpur, of which 15 deaths were caused due to Encephalitis; and 104 people have died in the severe floods that the state is reeling under, but Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Gorakhnath mutt head Yogi Adityanath's priority is the cow.

The CM on Thursday directed officials to set up 'gaushalas' (cow shelters) in seven districts of Bundelkhand region in the state and areas under 16 municipal corporations.

The chief minister, who had convened a meeting on Wednesday for the purpose, also directed the officials to set up cow protection committees to ensure that animals in 'gaushalas' are taken proper care of, an official statement said today.

Meanwhile, 70 children have died in the last four days in Gorakhpur’s now infamous Baba Raghav Das Medical College, said principal P K Singh, adding that no deaths have been recorded as on the morning of August 31.

On Wednesday, while addressing the 'Start-up Bus Yatra' event, in Lucknow, the UP chief minister went on to mock the parents in connection with the deaths at BRD Hospital, according to a report by Indian Express.

"As soon as their children turn one or two years old, people leave them for the government, so that the government can take care of them, " Adityanath said

What's more, flood woes continued in the state as the toll rose to 104 with one more death, while over 28 lakh people have been affected as the raging waters of the rivers emanating from Nepal have caused havoc. CM yogi visited flood-affected areas last week where he announced a compensation of Rs 4 Lakh for the families of the victims.

“The authorities shall provide a compensation of Rs. 4 lakh immediately to the accounts of those who lost their family members and a compensation of Rs. 95,100 to those whose houses were destroyed. The families, whose temporary houses were destroyed, will be enlisted and provided a lodging each,” he said. Observing the losses faced by the farmers, whose crops were damaged in the deluge he said, “We are contemplating on a plan to employ which can restore prosperity in the homes of these farmers, " as reported by Indian Express.

High time, CM Yogi keeps track of his priorities.
