CRPF plans to establish an exclusive training centre for women

NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) has proposed the establishment of an exclusive training centre for women at Alwar in Rajasthan with the paramilitary deciding to implement 33 percent reservation for women in the constabulary in order to enhance their representation.

The CRPF has sent a proposal to the Union Home Ministry for an establishment of National Women Training College at Bahadurpur in Alwar district of Rajasthan. Earlier, the Rajasthan Sector of the CRPF had proposed sanctioning a Mahila Recruitment Centre at Ajmer for training the women who will be recruited into the CRPF for enhancing their representation in the ranks.

The Union Home Ministry is examining CRPF proposals for the creation of new Recruit Training Centres including for the Mahila recruits. The proposal is being actively considered by the Ministry and a decision will be taken soon to significantly enhance the number of Mahila trainees, a Ministry official said, adding the Government is also mulling over to augment the staff strength of all the existing training centres.

A CRPF official said till the time the clearances for the establishment of new Recruit Training Centre (RTC) come, the paramilitary is mulling over designating one of the existing centres for the conduct of basic and promotional courses for women.

CRPF officials said a special training centre for women will facilitate better solutions for their training related issues.

Till now, the CRPF has five exclusive Mahila Battalions and the paramilitary has now decided to enhance representation of women all the other operational battalions. The CRPF has as many as 240 operational battalions and the Force has decided to deploy 33 per cent of women in these battalions at the constabulary level in pursuance of a Government policy to increase their representation in the ranks.    

Presently, the Mahila Battalion recruits are trained in a piecemeal manner at one of the training centres of the CRPF. The 213 Mahila Battalion and 232 Mahila Battalion that were raised in 2015 were trained at the CRPF training centre in Ajmer.
