KOLKATA: A day after the West Bengal chief minister ordered police to take stringent action against cow vigilantes, the Bengal BJP unit has planned to hold ‘milk festivals’ in all districts on June 10, in response to the beef festival recently held in Kerala. “Congress and CPM openly defied the law by slaughtering and distributing cow meat in Kerala.
We want to give a befitting reply to their beef festivals by organising milk festivals throughout West Bengal on June 10,” West Bengal Cow Development Cell president and BJP State committee member Subrata Gupta said. The milk festival will be simultaneously held at the Bengal BJP headquarters in Kolkata and district party offices on June 10.
Terming cow meat as poisonous, he blamed the bovine meat for extinction of vultures. “While cow milk gives us nutrition and life, it has been scientifically proven in London that cow meat is 90 per cent toxic. Vultures became extinct because they fed on cow carcasses. We don’t want our Muslim brothers to get extinct too,” he said.
“The symbolic protest by distributing milk will also send a message to CM Mamata Banerjee who claims she is a ‘true Hindu’ but ordered her police to beat up Gau Rakshaks and stated she will not abide by the Central rule. She may say that now but we will take the matter to the Supreme Court,” Gupta said.
He said the next step in the move to stop cow slaughter in West Bengal would be sending notices to slaughter houses in the State.
