Cops suspect brother-in-law behind Haryanvi singer’s murder
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police suspect that Delhi-based gangster Dinesh has got Haryanvi singer and dancer Harshita Dahiya, 22, murdered; he was her brother-in-law and is an accused in her mother’s murder case. Harshita was a witness in the case.
Harshita was shot dead by some unidentified persons at Chamrara village in Israna block of Panipat district on Tuesday, when she was returning home after performing at a function in the village.
Lata Dahiya, sister of the deceased singer, has claimed that her husband is behind her sister’s murder.
According to Panipat superintendent of police Rahul Sharma, Dinesh, who belongs to Karala village in Delhi, is a known gangster, is facing criminal charges and is currently lodged in Tihar jail. “Harshita had accused Dinesh of raping her in 2013 and a rape case was registered against him. He is also booked for murdering her mother in Delhi in 2014. Harshita was the main witness in the case,” Sharma said, adding that police is examining the case from all angles. “The case will be cracked soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, a video clip being circulated in social media shows Harshita stating that she was being threatened by some artistes from the state’s entertainment industry. “Some people from our industry are threatening me over the phone, asking me to compromise and delete the clip, else I will face consequences. I will not delete it. I am a Jaatni belonging to the Jaat community and I am not afraid of death,” she was seen saying in this clip. Police said it is not clear which video she was referring to.
