ABVP dominates student union polls in Madhya Pradesh

The ABVP swept the polls, winning in five of the six universities, including Indore, Ujjain, APS-Rewa, Gwalior and the Barkatullah University in Bhopal.

BHOPAL: After being pulverised in the students union polls in Delhi, Hyderabad, Rajasthan and Allahabad, the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) bounced back by dominating the polls held in universities and colleges across BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

The student outfit emerged as the dominating force in a large part of the state, including the Malwa-Nimar region, Bundelkhand and Bhopal. The opposition Congress’s students wing National Students Union of India (NSUI) fared well in colleges of Mahakaushal and Baghelkhand region.

The elections were held earlier in the day for student unions in six universities, besides aided and non-aided colleges.

The ABVP swept the polls, winning in five of the six universities, including Indore, Ujjain, APS-Rewa, Gwalior and the Barkatullah University in Bhopal. The NSUI, however, had to remain content with a win in the Rani Durgawati University in Jabalpur.

In major cities of the state, ABVP ruled the roost in aided and non-aided colleges of Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior, while the NSUI performed well in Jabalpur and Rewa.

While the counting of votes and declaration of results were still on till late evening in colleges in different parts of the state, the ABVP won where it mattered most.

In Bhopal, the ABVP won in 13 colleges, while the NSUI emerged victorious in just three colleges.

In Indore also, the ABVP won the top posts in most major colleges, including university teaching department campus, Government Arts and Commerce College, New Science College, New GDC and Old GDC.

The NSUI managed to win only in Government Law College and Government Sanskrit College in Indore.

In Gwalior, the native district of state’s minister for higher education Jaibhan Singh Pavaiya, the ABVP won in majority of colleges as well as the university.

In the Malwa-Nimar region, barring Nagada and Ratlam, where the NSUI emerged victorious, the ABVP came out with flying colours.

In the tribal belt adjoining assembly polls bound Gujarat, the ABVP romped home victorious in most colleges of Jhabua district. In adjoining

Alirajpur district, however, there was a tough battle between the ABVP and the NSUI supported tribal students outfit, with both winning two colleges each.

In Bundelkhand, the ABVP won in major colleges in Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh district, while the NSUI and independents performed well in Panna district.

In the Mahakaushal and Baghelkhand region, however, the NSUI performed reasonably well, winning 14 colleges in Jabalpur against just eight for the ABVP. In Rewa and Satna also, the NSUI performed reasonably well in both aided and non-aided colleges.

In Betul district, also, the ABVP won in the majority of the aided and non-aided colleges.
