GUWAHATI: The Opposition Congress today took out a procession inside Assam Assembly premises protesting against price rise of fuel and other essential commodities in recent times.

Led by Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia, most of the legislators and a few party leaders marched from the MLA quarters to the courtyard of the Assembly building before the House met on the penultimate day of the ongoing Budget Session.

"The BJP-led governments, both at the Centre and the state, had promised of 'achhe din' to the people.

But the common man is burdened with ever increasing prices of essential commodities and petroleum products," Saikia told reporters.

The MLAs raised anti-government slogans and carried placards against the Centre and state governments.

While the placards were not allowed inside the compound of the main Assembly building, the MLAs continued to shout slogans till they entered the House.
