Tribal woman and lover assaulted, paraded nude in Rajasthan's Udaipur
UDAIPUR: In a shameful incident, a young tribal woman and her lover were stripped and paraded naked in Udaipur district of Rajasthan.
The incident happened in Dano Ki Bhagal village under Sukher police station just 20 kilometres from the main city on Friday. After the information about the lovers being paraded circulated in the village, people gathered in large numbers to enjoy the " tamasha " and some even used their mobiles to capture videos of this shocking tragedy.
In the video that became viral, the couple are seen tied with a rope and were made to parade nude and a group of villagers are seen following them but nobody bothered to intervene or save the nude couple.
Finally, the Sukher police reached the place and relieved the couple from the mob's grip.
According to the police, the woman's ex-husband has been detained while two of his aides in the crime are missing.
According to the police, the woman and her lover are from the ST community and woman's
first marriage had taken place 5 years ago with Taru Gameti. However, they separated as per tribal customs.
During her first marriage, the woman had allegedly developed a relationship with a local boy Ram Lal Gameti. On Thursday, when she came to Sare khurd to meet Ramlal, her first husband came to know about it as Ramlal belonged to his village. He felt humiliated at his ex-wife's affair and wanted to teach the lovers a lesson.
Sources claim that the couple planned to elope after a secret marriage. On Friday Taru along with his uncle, Laluram and a friend Harish assaulted the couple. Both were stripped first, tied with a rope and made to walk around the village as a punishment.
Police was informed by some local people which brought the couple to the police station and registered an FIR. Trau has been taken in custody but two culprits are still absconding. Dano ki Bhagat comes under Chirwa gram panchayat.
Suresh Suthar the local Sarpanch has condemned the incident " I have come to know that the couple loved each other but to punish in such a manner is not acceptable at all and is against the law, the culprits should be arrested immediately and punished hard," said Suresh Suthar.
Incidentally, Udaipur is the hometown of the Rajasthan home minister Gulab Chand Kataria. This has not happened for the first time in Udaipur district - in June 2016 also, a woman and her lover were stripped and paraded naked and tied up together for two days and night in Kanod tehsil.
