BHOPAL: A 30-year-old upcoming model has been held hostage, since Friday morning, in her flat in Bhopal by a man who claims to be her lover.

The man has been identified as 30-year-old Rohit Singh, a native of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. The model has been held hostage in her bedroom since 7 am on Friday by Rohit, who has been demanding marriage.

The flat is located on the fifth floor of a multi-storeyed residential apartment in Misroad, on the outskirts of Bhopal.

Possibly armed with a country-made pistol, Rohit has refused to come out of the room along with the woman, until the woman’s family and the police allow them to get married. Sustained efforts by police to pacify Rohit and convince him to come out with the woman have failed.

Rohit, who has been waving a stamp paper from the grilled window of the flat, possibly bearing his and the woman’s signatures to show their decision to get married, is talking to journalists and posting live videos from inside the room.

The videos show the woman, who has sustained injuries, lying on the bed.

Rohit has told the media over the phone that he entered the flat with the woman's help, last night at around 11.30 pm, when other family members were asleep.

When the police tried to barge into the room, Rohit threatened them. A cop was injured after Rohit attacked him with a pair of scissors.

Police teams from three police stations are present at the spot and rescue operations are being supervised by SP Rahul Kumar Lodha. A team of doctors is also present on the spot.

According to other media reports, the man has started waving victory signs from the flat's window.
