BENGALURU: In unrelated incidents, two women aged 35 years and 70 years, lost their lives due to trespassing on railway tracks within the Bengaluru Division on Saturday morning.
In the first tragic incident that took place around 8.30 am on the tracks near Whitefield railway station, 35-year-old Ashwini was accompanying her son Avaduta to school.
"The Push-Pull Bengaluru-Bangarpet train that had just departed Whitefield railway station was coming towards them and both were waiting for it to pass. Sensing that the train was approaching quite slow, Avaduta left his mum and tried to dart across the tracks," explained a Government Railway Police (GRP) cop. Afraid that the train might hit her son, Ashwini ran behind him. "The boy managed to cross but the woman being a bit stout could not cross the tracks in time and was run over by the train," the cop added.
In the second incident that took place between Devanakunte and Malur, a 70-year-old woman was run over by an approaching train around 11.50 am. GRP is yet to gather details about it.
