Los Angeles, Nov 30 (PTI) Actor Willem Dafoe, who playedthe role of Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's "Spiderman", hasrevealed that he was initially dismissive of the idea ofstarring in movie based on a comic book.

"When 'Spider-Man' was proposed to me originally it waslike, 'Really, you're going to make a movie from a comicbook?'" Dafoe told Hugh Jackman on Variety's 'Actor on Actor'.

Dafoe, 62, will next appear in the upcoming "Aquaman",starring "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa in the titularrole.

"It was like I was slumming it, you know? I didn't see itthat way, but some people were like, 'Really?'" he added.

Jackman noted that the superhero genre had performedexceedingly well in the past decade.

"Ten years ago I remember hearing people say, "I don'tthink this will last much longer,' and it's just continued togrow. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

"I think 'X-Men' did a lot, particularly when it openedup in a concentration camp and the idea that we were taking itseriously in terms of more humanistic rather than superhuman,"Jackman said. PTI RBBK.
