For thousands of years, deforestation has taken a hugetoll on the environment. The ecological balance has beendisturbed due to clearing of forests. For the agriculturalexpansion, wood extraction and infrastructure expansion, deforestation has been practiced on an industrial scale. Thereis no single cause of deforestation, multiple processes worksimultaneously which leads to deforestation.

Leaving a bad impact on the earth, deforestation changeslocal weather. According to a study by NASA, there is anincrease in the carbon cycle and global warming. Scientistsestimate that the trees contain more carbon than 10 years'worth of human-produced greenhouse gases. When people clearthe forests, usually with fire, carbon stored in the woodreturns to the atmosphere. And all this contributes togreenhouse effect and global warming. The land loses itsproductivity as well which is one of the cause of soilerosion, because the quality of soil is very poor. It becomesvery thin and poor in nutrients.

According to the proceedings of the National Academy ofSciences, due to deforestation the rain in monsoons havesimply declined across the globe. And in certain areas, thereis excessive rain causing floods. The climatic balance of theearth is totally disturbed. The temperature easily crosses 40degree Celsius in some regions which is not a good number.

HPM's mission is to plant as many trees as they can andindulge many people in their campaign. It is one of the mostcelebrated scheme of the recent time which aims to make theenvironment a better place to live in for the people byplantation. To educate people the need of a healthyenvironment.
