CHENNAI: The Rajasthan Cricket Association’s presidential elections on May 29 will see high-profile candidates fighting it out. Taking on Congress leader CP Joshi will be Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir.
The elections were slated for April 26, but secretary Sumendra Tiwari had called off the process. The Joshi faction moved court which declared May 29 as the next date. The last date of withdrawal is May 28. Three dummy candidates who have filed nominations for the top post may withdraw.

The senior Modi is still the RCA president and the association has been suspened by BCCI for electing him. That Ruchir would contest RCA elections was reported by Express a few months ago. The 23-year-old’s name has been heard in Rajasthan cricket circles for the last few months. He heads the district association of Alwar. His father represents the district of Nagore. Ruchir’s Twitter handle says he is a Director of Godfrey Philips India Ltd and Modi Enterprises.

Other than Ruchir, BJP MP Harshvardhan Singh and and Lalit Modi’s legal counsel Mehmud Abdi have filed nominations from the Modi camp. These two, along with the Joshi panel’s Rampal Sharma, are likely to withdraw.
For the secretary’s post, Rajendra Singh Nandu is the candidate for the Modi faction, with Mahendra Sharma in fray from the Joshi camp.
