TIRUPATI: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday expressed his ire at officials for failing to achieve desired results. Agriculture department joint director and Panchayat Raj executive engineer could not give proper replies to the CM’s questions, provoking a sharp reaction from him.As there was no presence of his Cabinet colleagues or MLAs from the district due to model conduct, the chief minister, who initially looked uncomfortable, himself opened the Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru proceedings at R Mallavaram village in Renigunta mandal on Wednesday. He enquired from agriculture joint director Nirmal Nityanand whether they have appointed mandal extension officers for looking into agricultural matters at mandal level. With the joint director replying that they are yet to take up appointments and that it will take some more time in view of the election code, the CM sought explanation.

Stating that officials in Anantapur district have already completed the appointment of mandal extension officers, Naidu said he will not entertain any excuses. While enquiring with villagers about the construction of toilets, Naidu learnt that only 20 toilets were completed against the total 525 houses in the village. Stating that the government is providing material and financial aid for the toilets, the CM called the Panchayat Raj executive engineer and sought the reasons for the delay. At this juncture, Naidu lost his cool and warned officials against being negligent in completing their respective tasks. “What will be the use of conducting the Janmabhoomi programmes every year if there is no change with regard to development?” he asked the officials. Stating the government increased the salaries of employees by giving 43 percent fitment despite financial crunch, he said the government also provided health cards for the welfare of employees hoping for their active involvement in implementing government programmes for the development of the state. “But, if you fail to fulfil the same, I will not spare you,” he said.
