VISAKHAPATNAM: Mudasarlova park, one of the favourite picnic spots for the denizens, has been lying in a neglected state for many years.
Spread over 20 acres, the park is located at Hanumanthavaka, around 25 km from the city. Since the park is near the Mudasarlova reservoir which is a source of drinking water, there have been frequent complaints from the tourists and nearby people on its maintenance. In a bid to attract more tourists to the park, the VUDA authorities have planned to develop it with all the basic amenities and new facilities for attracting tourists.

“We have issued a request for proposal for consultancy selection and the last date for submission of bids is April 10. After the agency is finalised, a master plan and a model will be prepared depending on the requirement followed by the estimation of the budget. We will also factor in the views of the people,” said another official from the VUDA.

Environmentalist Vivek said, “It was once my favourite spot for photography, but now I have stopped going because of its dilapidated state.”
The park is set up in one of the picturesque valleys and has a lot of scope to woo tourists. However, a few amenities like washrooms and drinking water must be provided and it is maintained regularly, he added. Mudasarlova Water Works and Park, constructed during the British rule, is one of the oldest existing parks in the city.
