Hyderabad High Court issues notices to TDP leaders

Asked them to respond by next hearing on June 13; Andhra counsel to submit details

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday ordered notices to the Andhra Pradesh government and also some Telugu Desam leaders concerned for filing counter affidavits in a taken up case regarding the incident of abusing a senior officer and his staff by the ruling party MP, MLA and others in Vijayawada last month.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Shameem Akther was dealing with a taken up PIL case which was based on a news item published in a vernacular daily.

It was reported that the TDP leaders, including MP Kesineni Nani, MLA Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, MLC Buddha Venkanna, Mayor Koneru Sridhar and Andhra Pradesh Police Housing Corporation Chairman SK Nagul Meera had allegedly abused Transport Commissioner N Balasubrahmanyam, his security personnel and staff while discharging their official duties in Vijayawada on March 27. After reading the news item, Justice B Siva Sankara Rao wrote a letter to the Acting Chief Justice requesting him to treat the said news as a PIL case. The ACJ referred the letter to the PIL committee and the latter decided to treat the same as a taken up PIL case.

When the bench sought response from the Andhra Pradesh State government about the action taken on the incident, its special counsel Ramesh submitted that he would place the details in writing before the court.

While adjourning the case to June 13, the bench issued notices to the respondent authorities and TDP MP Kesineni Nani, MLA Uma, MLC Venkanna, Mayor Sridhar and Police Housing Corporation Chairman Nagul Meera to respond by the next date of hearing.
