KADAPA: An intermediate student was doused with petrol and set afire by a masked man at the
Rajampet Railway Station on Wednesday. He succumbed to injuries while being shifted to Tirupati for better treatment.

Kona Navin Kumar (17), a native of Kunavaripalle village in Khajipet mandal of Kadapa district, was an intermediate second-year student at Sri Chaitanya College in Tirupati.

On Wednesday, Navin Kumar boarded the Mumbai-Chennai Dadar Express to go to Tirupati. When the train arrived at Rajampet Station, he got down to fetch drinking water. While he was boarding the train again, an unidentified man poured petrol on him and set him afire. He was immediately shifted to the government hospital in Rajampet, where his condition became serious. While he was being moved to Tirupati for better treatment, he succumbed to injuries.

Rajampet urban CI Ashok Kumar visited the scene and registered a case. The identity of the attacker remains unknown.

Some railway passengers told newsmen that the victim had an argument with the attacker about standing at the entrance and that may have led to his killing. However, police suspect that it was a planned
murder as people are not allowed to carry petrol and other fuel in trains. They are also probing how the accused smuggled petrol into the railway station.
