VISAKHAPATNAM: As many as 15 passengers suffered minor injuries when a country-made bomb went off in the RTS bus they were travelling, near Dumuku village in Ananthagiri mandal of Visakhapatnam Agency on Tuesday night.

The bomb went off on the bus going from Visakhapatnam to Araku Valley at around 8.30 pm. Under its impact, a few glass window panes shattered and the back portion of the bus was damaged. Upon information, a police team rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital nearby.

According to sources, initial investigations suggested that it was a country-made bomb.

As the banned CPI Maoists are organising the Martyr's Week, speculations were rife that it might be a handiwork of the left wing extremists, However, the police authorities denied it.

"There is no Maoist involvement in the blast. The cause of the blast is yet to be ascertained. Investigations are on to find out if any passenger was carrying the bomb or it was planted by someone else," Visakhapatnam Rural SP Rahul Dev Sharma told Express.
