Three women from East Godavari district commit suicide

The victims wanted to leave the ‘world of sinners as they got summons from the God.

KAKINADA: Three women of a family allegedly committed suicide due to superstitious beliefs at Neelam Thota in Karapa village on Monday evening.The deceased were identified as R Satyaveni (48), a widow, her sister S Dhanalakshmi (42) and Dhanalakshmi’s daughter S Vaishnavi (18). According to police, Dhanalakshmi’s son Raghuveer, who came home in the evening found the front door of the house closed. When there was no response to his calls from inside, he grew suspicious and went to the backside of the house and found that door also closed.

He managed to force open the door, only to find his mother, sister and aunt hanging from the ceiling. He rushed to the church in the village and told pastor Nagaraju about the deaths. Later, he informed the matter to police.

Karapa SI M Janaki Ram, Port CI Rajasekhar and Kakinada Rural DSP M Venkateswarlu along with the clues team visited the house.  According to the police, the trio were devotees of Jesus and for some time were indulging in intense prayers.

On Sunday night, they held prayers in the house as part of Raghuveer’s birthday celebrations and organised a feast to villagers.

According to villagers, the trio were telling them for the past few days that they received summons from the God and wanted to leave the world of sinners. Dhanalakshmi’s husband Srinivas who is a mason, was not at home when the trio committed suicide. The bodies were shifted to a government hospital for postmortem. A case was registered.

“When we came to the village, already one body was kept on the floor. We have collected some evidence with the help of clues team. We need to question  several people before coming to a conclusion pertaining to the reason for the suicide of the three women,” the DSP said.
