VISAKHAPATNAM: Even as the depression formed over the Bay of Bengal, south Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh weakened into a low pressure zone by Wednesday morning, the weathermen have warned that heavy rain will continue to lash the north coastal Andhra districts for the next 24 hours.
A well-marked low pressure zone, associated with cyclonic circulation, is likely to trigger more rain along the AP coast, especially in the northern districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and twin Godavari districts, said a report issued by the IMD, Hyderabad.

A low pressure zone developed over northwest Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas of coastal Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh crossed the south Odisha coast close to Puri on Tuesday night. It weekend into a
well-marked low pressure area on Wednesday morning which now lies over Odisha. An associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level is tilting southwestwards.  “The trough on Sea Level Chart now runs from Chhattisgarh to South Tamil Nadu across Telangana and Rayalaseema which is likely to trigger heavy rains in the north coastal AP in the next 24 hours,” said a duty officer at IMD, Hyderabad.

With a forecast that strong surface winds from westerly direction catching a speed up to 55 kmph are likely to blow along and off Coastal AP, the weathermen warned fishermen against venturing into the sea for another 24 hours. In the last 24 hours, many places in coastal AP and Rayalaseema recorded heavy rainfall and strong winds. Gudivada in Krishna district recorded 9 cm rainfall, the highest in the state. With 7 cm of rain lashing Vijayawada, many areas in the city got inundated, much to the inconvenience of the citizens.  In Vizag, strong wind kept blowing through out the day with intermittant spell of rains in the evening.
