VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the new Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council building on the premises of the Interim Government Complex on Thursday.
At the pre-designated ‘muhurtham’ of 11:25 a.m., Naidu will inaugurate the building complex, constructed at the cost of over Rs 180 crore.
The building will be handed over to the Assembly officials by the AP Capital Region Development Authority on March 4.
Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Minister for Finance and Legislative Affairs, who inspected the arrangement made for the inaugural function, said that police would take over the building on March 4. After that, only pass holders will be allowed to enter the premises.
The budget session of the AP Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will commence from March 6.
After the Governor's address on the first day, Business Advisory Council (BAC) will meet to decide on the agenda of the session. Leader of the Opposition, ministers, MLAs, MLCS and farmers who gave their land for the capital city construction have been invited for the inaugural function.
Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, who had supervised the construction of the Assembly and other buildings in the IGC, said apart from security features, several features of Kerala Assembly and Parliament building in London were incorporated in the new Assembly building.
The building, which houses both Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, has two floors.
The seating capacity of the Legislative Assembly is 230 and that of the council is 90.
Though the number of elected representatives to Assembly is 176, additional seats were arranged to accommodate future additions to the total number.
It has different chambers for CM, Leader of Opposition, speaker, deputy speaker, whips and officials.
Another unique feature of the ultra modern Assembly hall is that it has no traditional mikes, instead has state-of-the art audio system.
The entire hall, including the desks, has been constructed with sound proof material, negating chances for ruckus in the hall.
The entire audio system can be controlled from the Speaker’s podium, that means, the Speaker will be the master control of the entire audio system in the Assembly Hall.
