LED bulbs to replace 2.76 lakh street lights in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari villages

ELURU : District Collector K Bhaskar on Thursday said all street lights in villages in West Godavari would be replaced by energy efficient LED bulbs by next year to reduce the power bills of panchayats.


Speaking after distributing LED tube lights to power consumers at a programme at the Collectorate here, the Collector said all villages in the district were electrified. About 2.76 lakh street lights in villages would be replaced by LED bulbs as part of an initiative to conserve energy.

LED bulbs and energy efficient fans would be provided to Anganwadi centres and schools. Use of solar pumpsets would also be promoted in a big way, the Collector said.


Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO) Chief Executive Officer A Chandrasekhar Reddy said the State become power surplus from 22.5 million units deficit in 2014 due to the energy efficiency initiatives taken by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.


APEPDCL Superintending Engineer Chinta Satyanarayana Reddy said out of the total 9.9 lakh power consumers in the district, 7.74 lakh received two LED bulbs each at nominal price last year. In Narsapur division, 42,000 energy efficient ceiling fans were also distributed to power consumers, the SE said.
