Andhra Pradesh police: Arrested Maoist duo remanded

The SP said Mishra and Prudhviraj hatched a plan to murder Appa Rao to bring Rohith Vemula’s case back into focus by raising a national-level debate.

KAKINADA: The two Maoists, Chandan Kumar Mishra of West Bengal and Ankala Prudhviraj of Vijayawada, who were arrested in connection with an attempt on life of Podile Appa Rao, Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad (UoH), on Saturday, were remanded in Central Jail, Rajamahendravaram, after they were produced in court.

East Godavari district Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni, who produced them before the media on Saturday, said more details of Maoist activities in the State came to light during interrogation of the duo.
They revealed vital information regarding Devendra and Shilpa of Chaitanya Mahila Sangham, a banned frontal outfit of the Maoist party, Vijaya Laxmi alias Bhumika, a top-level Maoist leader and Radha, joint secretary of the party in Warangal district of the neighbouring Telangana State, are wanted in connection with cases related to Left-wing extremism, Vishal Gunni said and added that all of them are well-educated.
The SP said Mishra and Prudhviraj hatched a plan to murder Appa Rao to bring Rohith Vemula’s case back into focus by raising a national-level debate.

They also thought the V-C’s murder would attract many students to the Maoist movement, he said.
The SP further said the Police Department has definitive information that many Maoists are working underground to spread their ideology.
