Andhra Pradesh cops rescue old woman minutes after alert on WhatsApp

VISAKHAPATNAM: City Police wasted no time in responding to a WhatsApp alert informing them about an 85-year-old woman lying unconscious on a street in Gopalapatnam area of the city. Immediately after the message was posted on Monday night, police swung into action and rescued the woman. She was taken to a private hospital for treatment after which she was admitted to an old age home near Pendurthi.

The health of the old woman, when found near the Railway Flyover Bridge at Kothapalem area in Gopalpatnam Police station limits, was so poor that she was unable to ask for help. A good samaritan who saw the old woman on the street sent a message including a picture and the location of the woman to City Police Commissioner T Yoganand. The top cop passed on the message to Gopalapatnam Inspector Vykunta Rao to provide necessary help.

Rao along with sub inspector Srinivas reached the spot with an ambulance and shifted the old woman to a private hospital, where she was treated for free and provided medicines. The City Police then contacted a couple of old age homes and finally took her to one near Pendurthi in their vehicle.

“First of all, we must thank the citizen who brought the case to our notice. After we received the message from our Commissioner, we rushed to  the spot. Hospital authorities pitched in by providing her with free treatment,” Rao told TNIE, adding that “everything happened in two hours”.
