Srikakulam boy secures NEET 8th rank, 5 from Andhra Pradesh among top 50

35,732 of 49,253 candidates from state clear medical qualifying examination

VIJAYAWADA:  Ankadala Anirudh Babu of Srikakulam district secured all India rank 8 in the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) by securing 680 marks out of 720. As many as 35,732 of the 49,253 candidates from the State who appeared for MBBS admissions qualified in the test, the results of which were released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday

An elated Anirudh Babu said, “My family and faculty members are the main reason for my success as they helped me a lot in this journey. I wanted to become a doctor right from my childhood.”
Avvaru Manvita from Kadapa, who secured the 385th rank said, “I want to become a neurologist and would like to join either Christian Medical College Vellore or Bangalore Medical College. I am happy that I secured a good rank in the NEET.” Manvita, who also secured 42nd rank in Telangana Eamcet and 70th rank in AP Eamcet is awaiting the AIIMS results, before taking a final call.

Attributing her success to hardwork and support from her parents and teachers, Manvita, who pursued her college education in Vijayawada, said she stayed away from entertainment and social media to focus on preparations. In all, five candidates from the State secured all India ranks between 1 and 50 and 11 ranks between 50 and 100. In 2017, just 10 students from the State featured in the top 100 list.
O Venkata Sai Harshavardhan secured 14th rank with 675 marks, M Jaideep secured 16th rank with 675 marks, K Sri Harsha secured 19th rank with 675 marks and V Ravi Kiran secured the 36th rank by scoring 670 marks.

AP has fared better than Telangana as five students from the State have bagged ranks between 1 and 50 while only two from the neighbouring State achieved the feat. Kalpana Kumari from Bihar secured all India first rank while Rohan Purohit from Telangana secured second rank.

In 2017, a total of 32,392 candidates from Andhra Pradesh and 27,075 candidates from Telangana qualified in the NEET. This year,  35,732 candidates from AP and 30,912 from Telangana made the cut. From this year, AP has joined the national pool quota, where candidates from the state who secured ranks between 1 and 10,000 in the all India category will have a good chance of securing seats in other State colleges. Of the 1,750 seats available in government medical colleges in the State, 261 will be in the national quota.
