BENGALURU/KALABURAGI/BALLARI : The demonetisation move has started bearing impact on commodity prices across the state. The price of tur dal has touched its lowest in the last two years in Kalaburagi district, which is known as the ‘tur bowl’ of the country.
Similarly, red gram prices continue to fall below the minimum support price (MSP) in wholesale and retail markets in the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) in Ballari.
As per information available from Agriculture Produce Market Committee in Kalaburagi, the model price for a quintal of tur dal on Wednesday was `5,113. This is is slightly higher than the `5,050 MSP announced by the Union government for high quality tur. According to data, the rate for tur on December 1 was `5,454 per quintal. It continued to fall from `5,331 on December 2 to `5,113 on December 14. In November, the model price was `6,099 to `5,442 per quintal for old arrivals.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Agriculture Market Department Madhavachar said they have requested the government to intervene in the market by opening procurement centres in all taluk headquarters of Kalaburagi as there is fear that tur prices will fall below the MSP.
Sources in the APMC said red gram was tendered from a minimum price of `3,808 per quintal to a maximum of `4,555 on Wednesday. The model price was `2,289 per quintal. Meanwhile in Ballari, the retail price of red gram was between `3,000 and `4,816 per quintal.
Experts say the price has fallen as the import of red gram has increased.
