Siddanayaka (55) of Thondawadi died at KR Hospital on Wednesday.  It all began when Siddanayaka’s son Mahesh picked a quarrel during a jatra and abused a village leader.

Village elders held a meeting and called for a social boycott of Siddanayaka’s family. They told the family to pay a fine and apologise to the village leader. However, Siddanayaka refused to pay the fine and maintained that they had not committed any mistake.

Later, Siddanayaka and his family were stopped by villagers from attending the funeral of a fellow villager. Upset with the attitude of the village leader, Siddanayaka took the extreme step, sources said. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he died.

Mahesh has lodged a complaint against 15 people, alleging that they were responsible for his father’s suicide.
