Grim sunset on Chamundi Hill: German tourist molested on Mysuru's iconic hill

MYSURU:  A German tourist was groped and molested by a stalker at the Nandi statue atop Mysuru’s iconic Chamundi Hills on Monday, and the police of the city have launched a launched a massive manhunt for the molester.

The 32-year-old German tourist was on a three-month tour of India and arrived in Mysuru on Friday, having heard of the delights of the city. After seeing the Mysuru Palace, she went to Chamundi Hill to watch the sunset.

In her statement to the police, the German national said she was climbing down the steps of Chamundi Hill after watching the sunset at the top. She noticed that a man had been following her for some time. Being twilight (7.30 pm), there were very few people on the steps leading up to Chamundi Hill. As she reached the Nandi statue, the assailant groped her from behind.

She resisted him but the man bit her on the lips and body. She screamed for help and bystanders rushed to her rescue. But the man ran away, snatched Rs 2,500 in cash from her.

Deputy commissioner of police (law and order) H T Shekhar said a special CCB team has been formed to catch the stalker. On Tuesday morning, detectives took the victim back to the scene of the crime to find clues to the culprit.
