This is not the first time Roopa has stirred a hornet’s nest. A few months ago, she had taken on Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha on social media over the issue of postings of IPS officers.
In her report addressed to the DG&IGP and the DGP (Prisons) on Wednesday, Roopa stated that she visited the prison on July 10 and discovered many illegal activities taking place.

Deputy Inspector of General (Prisons) D Roopa accused her superior officer, Director General of Police (Prisons) K Sathyanaranaya Rao, of interfering in her work ever since she took charge.

A report addressed to the DG & IGP and the DGP (Prisons), leaked to the media, contains remarks against several prison officials for violating rules by providing additional facilities to some inmates.

In the report, Roopa said following her prison visit, Rao issued a notice to her questioning its purpose. This is unnecessary interference in her duty, she said.

Roopa said during her visit, 25 inmates were subjected to drugs tests and 18 were found to have abused drugs.

The kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Kareem Telgi, was provided with an assistant for moving around in his wheelchair. Now, Telgi can walk without any help. Bu 3-4 inmates were seen massaging his legs and body. This can be viewed on the CCTV screens installed in the DGP’s chamber but no action has been taken, the report says.

It also says that AIADMK (Amma) general secretary V K Sasikala, who is serving time in a disproportionate assets case, was given a kitchen in her barrack in violation of norms. Roopa alleged that a superior officer was bribed `2 crore to provide this.

When contacted, Rao said, “I have not received any report and the allegations are baseless. Those who make allegations should have proof or evidence.”

DG & IGP R K Dutta could not be reached for comment.
