MYSURU: Mata Amritanandamayi Devi on Sunday expressed concern over how human selfishness is ruining society and nature.
Highlighting the importance of love, humanity and value-based education, she explained how educated youth from well-to-do families are getting involved in gangs resulting in rise in crimes and violence against women and children.
Taking part in the Brahmasthanam Mahostsavam held in Bogadi on Sunday, Amma said value-based education will be the solution to most of the problems faced by society. “The goal of education is not to create people who can understand the language of machines. Its main purpose should be to impart a culture of the heart that is based on moral and spiritual values. But unfortunately we are forgetting this.”
Today, mankind has become a walking disaster, she said. “The biggest problem we face is a mind that lacks discernment. A selfish mind does not allow us to see the sorrows of others. Most people only think of their own happiness and what they can receive from others,” she rued.
