MYSURU: A member of the notorious Dandupalya gang that once wreaked havoc in the state robbing and murdering people, has now been arrested by Nagamangala police in a house burglary case.
Doddamuniya, a Dandupalya gang member, who was involved in three murders for which he was convicted and had served sentence, was arrested along with his brother Chikkamuniya at Mallappanahalli village in Magadi taluk on March 8. The two brothers had absconded after being released on bail over several house burglary cases three decades ago.
The police said the accused duo was involved in 35 house burglaries in Mandya, Hassan, Tumakuru, Bengaluru, Channarayapatna and other places between 1981 and 1984. Dobbspet police arrested them in 1985 and recovered the stolen goods.
Mandya SP Sudhir Kumar Reddy said in 1988, the duo came out on bail and since then they never returned. The police searches failed to yield any results for three decades, he added. On March 8, the police said they got information about one of their sons living in the village and through them they managed to arrest the duo.
