RAICHUR: Four stone inscriptions dating back to 15th century were found in Manvi taluk of Raichur district. These inscriptions discovered at Chikalparvi village are believed to be related to Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara empire on July 15, 1521.

Chikalparvi village is located about 11 km south of the Manvi taluk and is located on the left bank of Tungabhadra river. These inscriptions were discovered by Channabasappa Malkamdinnim, a history lecturer and researcher from Raichur. Channabasappa did his doctorate on inscriptions.

According to Channabasappa, Chikalparvi is also a historic village with many dasavites (devotional singers) and temples. One of the popular dasavites was Vijayadasa. Ramalingeshwara temple and Maruti temples are the major attractions here. These inscriptions were found in the month of October and studied for over 20 days.  “Vaishnavism is seen on the stone slabs. We can conclude the practice of Vaishnavism ideology as chakra, shanka and Vishnu namas are present on the stone slab. The script of inscriptions are both in Kannada and Sanskrit,” Channabasappa said.

He further said this was placed by scion of Vijayanagar empire, Krishnadevaraya on July 15, 1521. “There are 142 lines on the four stone inscriptions. The first stone reveals the history of Tuluva dynasty of Krishnadevaraya. This dynasty is the third clan of Tuluvas and ruled from 1509 to 1529. The second inscription talks about Krishnadevaraya’s visits to various places.”

In the second inscription it is mentioned that Krishnadevaraya visited Shrishaila, Tirupati, Amaravati, Mahanandi, Srirangam, Ahobala, Kanchi, Kumbakonam, Gokarna and in those places he had given Ratnadhenu, Hiranashva, Tulapurusha and Gosahasra, which are various offerings. In the third, it talks about the titles Krishnadevaraya had. These titles are Rayaraganda, Rajaparameshwara, Mooru Rayara Ganda, Pararaaya Bhayankar, Hinduraya Suratrana, Shardula Mardhanha, Veerapratapa, and the emperor of Anga, Vanga and Kalinga. In the final stone, it says Krishnadevaraya won Raichur, which was then called as Rachuru, and conquered Alampur, Manuve (Manvi), Hanugal (Hanagal), Magadedurga
(Magadi Fort).
