Medical, dental course fee to go up by 10 per cent this year in Karnataka

Fee for undergraduate medical courses will go up to Rs 77,000 for a government quota seat.

BENGALURU: Aspirants for undergraduate medical and dental seats in the state will have to shell out more as the fee will be increased by 10% for the 2018-19 academic year. The fee for undergraduate medical courses will go up to Rs 77,000 for a government quota seat in private medical colleges and to Rs 6.32 lakh for seats under COMED-K quota. Likewise, the fee for dental courses will increase to Rs 49,000 and Rs 4.29 lakh, respectively.

However, the fee structure for engineering courses has not been discussed so far. As the election code of conduct is in force, managements of private engineering colleges will have to wait for the new government to take charge.

According to sources in the medical education department, the department officials and medical college managements had earlier discussed revision of fee structure for undergraduate medical/dental courses, along with post-graduate courses, in view of the assembly elections this year.

M R Jayaram, chairman of Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation, said, “While fixing the fee for medical/dental courses in 2017-18, it was agreed that a 10% hike will be effected for the next three years. So, according to the agreement, the fee will be increased by 10% from this year.” The fee will be hiked by 10% again in 2019-20 as per the agreement, he added.
