KOCHI: With the next general elections around six months away, Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary P K Narayana Panicker on Sunday called upon the community members to introspect whether any political party has done any good for the community so far.

“There is no wrong in supporting any political party, but we should also consider the future of our younger generation. No political parties have supported our reasonable demands. We should not remain silent on the wrong policies of the government, particularly on job reservation,” Panicker said inaugurating the Nair mahasammelan here.

He said that no political party had the courage to say that it would consider the demands put forward by the NSS on reservation. Even our demand for a corporation to look into the issues of forward community had been ignored.

“So far we haven’t thought about our problems.

It is hightime we deliberate on our issues and take a firm decision,” he said adding that the community should transform into a major force to reckon with in the political sphere.

Panicker said that the governments which ruled the state since 1992 had attempted to appease only a section of the people as part of the vote bank politics.

“No political party is ready to implement the Supreme Court verdict, which directed to cull away the creamy layer while awarding the reservation benefits to the OBC and other sections.

We are not against giving reservation to any category but it should be implemented in a meaningful manner and not just to placate any community,” he said.

NSS assistant secretary G Sukumaran Nair, NSS director board members N V Ayyappan Pillai and M M Govindankutty Master spoke on the occasion.
