Cheruvally Estate is govt property, says CM

The Cheruvally Estate, the proposed location of the Sabarimala airport, is government property, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated in the Assembly on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cheruvally Estate, the proposed location of the Sabarimala airport, is government property, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated in the Assembly on Monday. The plantation, mired in an ownership dispute, is currently held by Believers’ Church.  In a written reply in the House, Pinarayi said the Settlement Register, the basic revenue document, reveals the estate is government land.
The ownership dispute is currently before the Kerala High Court. The Special Officer had issued orders for recovering the plantation on May 28, 2015. The case is  before the Division Bench, Pinarayi said, adding that steps have not been initiated for taking over the land.

The state government had approved, in principle, a project to establish a greenfield airport in the Central Travancore region on February 21.The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) was entrusted with the job of assigning the feasibility study to a competent agency. The KSIDC had submitted its recommendations which were being examined by the government, he said. Based on a preliminary location study submitted by an Additional Chief Secretary-headed committee on April 25, the government had zoomed in on Cheruvally Estate. Orders selecting the estate as the location for the airport were issued on July 21.

Left bid to politicise  police force, says O Rajagopal

T’Puram: The Left Government in the state has been trying to politicise the police force, alleged BJP’s lone legislator O Rajagopal. Speaking in the House on Monday, the veteran leader said the police have been taking a partial and biased approach in political violence in the state.  Earlier Rajagopal moved notice for calling attention over political violence. The Speaker permitted him to speak after K Muraleedharan’s notice for adjournment motion. However Opposition UDF members moved to the well against the decision.   Later speaking before staging a walkout from the House, Rajagopal termed the attacks against the BJP state headquarters and residences of party counsellors a planned  move.  “The visuals from the CCTV camera make it clear the police have been acting in a biased manner,” he said.
