

KOCHI: The Thrissur West police have registered a case against jailed beedi baron Mohammed Nisham aka Hummer Dad for threatening the manager of his real estate firm.
Chandrasekharan- the petitioner, employed with Kind Space Builders and Developers, said Nisham who is serving time at Kannur Central Prison for running over a security guard with his hummer, had called him up from a landline number twice on Tuesday and threatened him.
An officer attached to the West police station confirmed the complaint and said a case has been registered and a probe is under way.
"We have to investigate the reasons and other factors. The complainant will be questioned and there will be a parallel probe to establish whether Nisham indeed made any call from the jail and threatened Chandrasekharan," he said.
Kannur central jail superintendent Nirmalanandan Nair told the New Indian Express the jail had 13 phone lines and the inmates could make calls to registered numbers for Rs 280 per month. Nair said he had been emailed a copy of the complaint and revealed that Chandrasekharan had visited the jail at least 20 times. This had been mentioned in the complaint, he added.
"He said Nisham refused to sign several of the documents pertaining to the company and abused him several times during his visit," Nirmalanandan Nair said.
Meanwhile, there are reports of two more employees lodging complaints against Mohammed Nisham, but police remain tight-lipped on this.
Thrissur Rural SP G H Yathish Chandra and city police commissioner Rahul R Nair, however, denied having received any fresh complaints from employees of the Mohammed Nisham’s company.
