Vice-principal, two other Nehru College of Engineering staff suspended

Jishnu was found hanging in the college’s hostel on January 6.

THRISSUR: The management of Nehru Group of Institutions on Thursday suspended three officials of Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre, Pamapdi, as part of an internal inquiry into the suicide by first-year computer science student Jishnu Pranoy.

Vice-principal Dr N K Sakthivel, teacher Praveen C P and PRO Sanjith Viswanathan have been suspended and asked to cooperate with any inquiry into the incident, said the management in a statement, adding that a three-member inquiry commission deputed by the management is conducting the internal inquiry. The suspended trio are the main accused in the incident.

In its statement, the management also condoled Jishnu’s demise and requested students, local residents, teachers and non-teaching staff to cooperate in restarting classes in colleges under the group.
Jishnu was found hanging in the college’s hostel on January 6. It is said he was harassed by college authorities for allegedly copying in examination.

ACP-led team takes over probe
Meanwhile, the new inquiry team led by Irinjalakuda ACP Kiran Narayanan took over the investigation into Jishnu’s suicide from Crime branch DySP Biju K Stephen. The team also visited the college for collecting evidence.
