Complaints Galore against Toms College in the inspection

KOTTAYAM: Complaints galore at the inspection, conducted by the officials of the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) at Toms College of Engineering at Mattakkaran in Kottayam, regarding the awful experience being faced by the students here.

According to sources, apart from the students’ complaints forwarded by the government and KTU vice chancellor, more than 100 complaints were received in the inspection conducted by KTU registrar Dr. G P Padmakumar and controller of examinations Dr. S Shabu in the college, the other day. Speaking to Express, Padmakumar said that majority of complaints were related with College chairman Tom T Joseph’s behaviour towards the students.

“There are three batches of students in Toms College, of which first and second year students come under KTU and third year students are under MG University. We have received several complaints from first and second year students and their parents, which were related with chairman’s behaviour, non-qualified faculty members and lack of infrastructure facilities. We have taken the complaints with utmost seriousness and have found that some of the issues, pointed by them, are prima facie valid,” he said adding that a detailed report would be submitted to the University vice chancellor soon, which will be tabled before Executive Committee of the university for initiating action.

It is learnt that in the wake of majority of students out of nearly 200 students in first and second year batches and their parents raised serious complaints against the college management, KTU likely to recommend action against the college. Meanwhile, college authorities refuted allegations and said that there were some other agendas behind the false campaign against the college.

“We admit that we couldn’t convince the students and their parents about the objectives behind the strict restrictions. Our only intention was good results and better ranking of the college. However, there were some concerted efforts from some individuals and other colleges to tarnish the reputation of our college, while we ranked top among colleges under KTU,” said K Renjini, administrative officer.
