Vigilance Bureau arrests gynaecologist for taking bribe   

VACB officials arrested a medical consultant with the Government Taluk Hospital at Thamarassery for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,000.

KOZHIKODE: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) officials on Monday arrested a medical consultant with the Government Taluk Hospital at Thamarassery for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2,000 from a man for conducting laparoscopic sterilisation on his wife. 

K P Abdul Rasheed (52), a gynaecologist in the hospital was arrested in a trap set by the Vigilance officials on Monday morning. According to officials, the couple had visited the doctor at the hospital on January 18 to know about the procedures for laparoscopic sterilisation. Apart from the consultation fee of Rs 200, the doctor demanded a bribe of `2,000 to perform the surgery. 

The couple informed this to the VACB officials. As suggested by Vigilance sleuths, he handed over chemically-treated currency notes to the doctor on Monday. 

The team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Jossy Cherian, made the arrest while the doctor was accepting the money from him. A case has been registered under Sections 7 and 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
