Malayalam actress assault case: Actor Edavela Babu quizzed; Pulsar Suni's bail plea dismissed

The special investigation team probing the actress assault case on Saturday interrogated actor Edavela Babu, who is the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors.

KOCHI: The special investigation team (SIT) probing the actress assault case on Saturday interrogated actor Edavela Babu, who is the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Actors (AMMA).

According to the police, Babu was summoned to the Aluva Police Club around 12.45 pm and the interrogation lasted an hour. They said the interrogation mainly focused on the rehearsal camp of a stage show organised by AMMA in 2013, during which actor Dileep allegedly hatched the conspiracy behind the assault on the actress. The police also sought details of the financial transactions between  Babu and Dileep.  Later, Babu said the investigators had sought some documents needed as part of the ongoing probe and also enquired about the stage show.

Kavya may be quizzed again

The probe team is ascertaining whether Pulsar Suni, the key accused in the case, had worked as actor Kavya Madhavan’s driver for a while.Earlier, Kavya had told the police she had no links with Suni. However, the investigators had noticed Suni’s presence at the shooting location of a movie in which Dileep and Kavya acted together. So, the SIT is likely to call her up again to seek clarification on some of the details provided by her. Besides Kavya, the team is planning to collect more details from her mother Shyamala Madhavan and a couple of others from the film industry, including actor-singer Rimi Tommy.

Appunni still untraceable

The SIT is yet to trace the location of Dileep’s manager Appunni, even a day after the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. “Appunni was present during Dileep’s discussions with Pulsar Suni and we have also obtained evidence of his meeting with Vishnu, the ninth accused in the case, after the assault took place. Hence, the probe hinges on Appuni’s interrogation,” SIT sources said.
