Thanuja, who had acted in some TV serials and albums in Malayalam, was working as a maid servant in the house of the Payyannur native, who was an employee with the Health Department of Karnataka, at Kanakpura Raghuvanahalli, near Bengaluru.

After gaining the trust of the houseowner within a short span of time,  Thanuja disappeared from the house on September 28.  Soon, the woman discovered gold ornaments worth 35 sovereigns were stolen from the house.
