Min hails Guruvayur thantri’s stand

Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran has welcomed Guruvayur temple thantri Chennas Dinesan Namboodiri’s statement that the state government could take the lead in allowing non-Hindus to the temple

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran has welcomed Guruvayur temple thantri Chennas Dinesan Namboodiri’s statement that the state government could take the lead in allowing non-Hindus to the temple.“The Guruvayur thantri family took a progressive stand during the time of allowing temple entry to members of all Hindu communities.

Dinesan Namboodiripad’s opinion has much relevance in these times,” Kadakampally said in a statement here on Monday. The minister said several Hindus had told him their wish to allow veteran singer K J Yesudas to enter the Guruvayur temple. Today, in retrospect, we realise untouchability was an evil practice. The black board restricting non-Hindus from entering Hindu temples too is similar,” he said.
Progressive organisations have been demanding this for long. Dinesan Namboodiripad’s comment is a fitting reply to those who flayed this suggestion. The government will examine his suggestion, minister said.
